So we want John Cleese to play Torak and Stacie Hanes instead of
David Chapman and Julia Jones?
I don't have a problem with that.
But I must say I'm surprised. I didn't expect responses along the
lines of, "X should play me". I expected more responses along the
lines of, "No, X shouldn't play me, he's too old, he should play Y
instead", and I also expected more third-party responses from people
who disagree with one or more of my castings and wish to suggest a
better match.

My problem is, whilst I see myself more as a Michael Palin character than
an Eric Idle character, by and large I'd rather spend time around Michael
Palin characters. I'm probably not quite intense enough to be played by
Terry Jones, but that might be an acceptable compromise.

Only if it's free. Doubling the AFP annual budget has not had a noticeable
effect on the amount of money available. Indeed, neither would increasing
it by a factor of a million. At least, not until Nobby puts that 20p back
into the tea caddy.

ROFL!
I think we've just witnessed the birth of a new meme.
Any bets on how long it will be before it's been overused and tired and
annoys people who think it might have been funny the first one or two
times but the point of jokedeath has long passed, and newbies complain
that they haven't grown tired of it yet and grumpy old farts should just
shut up, which will lead to a moderately-sized flamewar with [M] threads
explaining that memes have a lifetime, and the more you use them the
more worn they get (quoting as an example the phrase "all your badger
badger badgers are belong to us"), while at the same time acknowledging
that unpropagated memes are by definition not memes, so the whole thing
is pointless anyway, but on the bright side we all of a sudden have a
lot of very interesting and good recipes, so nothing bad that doesn't
bring something good, or however the say is phrased, and since I'm
always interested in new simple-to-cook recipes, I vote we follow this
course of action and use it whenever possible (or not, as the case may
be), with a bonus point to those who manage to use it in an unexpected
context or new manner, wherefore I hereby award one such point to
Daibhid to express my regard for his clever use of it in the post here
quoted.

If you want to be played by Jones, as a compromise between Idle and
Palin, then who on afp do you see as an Eric Idle character? And who
is the better fit for Jones - you or Daibhid?
Just for interest: I have a video of the Python 30th anniversary
documentary, and I rewatched part of it as my research for my casting.
This helped me to think more in terms of what the individuals look
like _now_ than what they looked like when Python was transmitted -
although I took both into account.

Hate to have to point this out, but it's quite possible to bugger someone
with eg fingers (or the entire hand, for that matter).

This is true, and could very well be considered adventurous, as Peter
said.
I gladly withdraw my previous comment, especially since "buggeree"
sounds very innocent, and thus couldn't be applied to Torak (who would
be one if he met a girl who proved to him she was a bugger... er).

I don't mind pointing this out, but buggering means sodomising, and not just
anal penetration. You can no more bugger someone with a finger than
performing fellatio on a finger.

But let me counter-point-out that the girl might be adventurous enough to
place small monitoring devices in order to spy on people. No idea what
you lot are on about.

The Webster's definition is "to practice anal sex upon". More generally,
sodomising is "to subject to an act of sodomy", and there are some
exceedingly wide definitions thereof.

There is no magic bullet. There are, however, plenty of bullets that
magically home in on feet when not used in exactly the right circumstances.

I've read the rest of this subthread, and can I just say it's a hell of a
thing to blunder into first thing in the morning?
(yeah, this was posted at 0920 local time, sod off)
(Southern US states, BTW, have vast, sweepingly wide definitions of sodomy:
it's almost synonymous with "not missionary")

I am not a meme, I'm a man
Seriously folks, It's been funny the last couple of days but I'm not really
sure I want to be remembered as an AFP in-joke
I can see it now. I'll introduce msyelf at the Con and some bright spark
WILL say "Andrew, Fetch me a beer"
This could grow tiresome VERY quickly.

As long as they also say "Here's some cash, get yourself one, and keep the
change" it won't be too bad.

What a very disturbing turn this thread has taken.
That said, the fictional me clearly has a far more interesting life than
the real me, so...
